The Library of “parchments”

The Library of Ajuda is one of the oldest in Portugal. The magnificent Reading Halls of the this former Royal Library are lined, from floor to ceiling, with rows of shelves crammed with thousands of century old volumes. These books’ spines bound in leather and heavily embossed in fine gold enchantingly glow under the sun of Lisbon’s skies. The library is famous for its rare collection of copiously  illustrated manuscripts, exuberantly coloured classical treatises and intricate music scores of the Baroque period.

Price: € 7,00 Euros (free for children under 12 but with the need for reservation)
