The secrets of Mitra Palace of Lisbon
In this year's edition dedicated to Marvila, the doors of the Palace of Mitra couldn't stay closed.
This Palace is usually closed and reserved to city council events and this May, Lisbonweek will open this Palace only for 3 Sundays for you with our historical guidance.
You will learn many stories, like discovering that the archbishops and patriarchs of Lisbon have been, throughout history, the great landowners of this territory and it was at the Mitra estate that they had their countryside retreat at the entrance of the city. Small jewel of the Portuguese palatial architecture from the first half of the eighteen century, the history of Mitra will be enriched by its private owners throughout the nineteen century, when it became a bourgeois symbol of wealth and a romantic refuge surrounded with legends. Factory, asylum for the underprivileged, library and section of the city's museum, the twentieth century will add secrets and memories to the palace that we challenge you to unravel with us.
